8. SAFE, EFFICIENT, ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION

WE SUPPORT a reduction in motor vehicle use in the City, with funding priorities and development policies emphasizing alternatives to driving. We seek efficient public transportation that is accessible and affordable to all and believe the City should encourage the use of alternative forms of transportation including bicycling, walking, carpooling, and public transit. We support:

1. Ensuring that all transportation issues are viewed through an equity lens.

2. A regionally integrated public transportation system, including a convenient, accessible inter-city bus station with easy connections to other forms of transport.

3. Comprehensive, efficient, fare-free, fully accessible 24-7 transportation service along with assistance for employers to provide employee incentives for alternatives to driving alone.

4. Local funding to support quality, affordable, on-demand, door-to-door paratransit services.

5. A parking stall or impervious surface fee to generate increased revenue for alternatives to driving.

6. Adoption of a complete streets policy, including adequate sidewalks on all streets. Facilities investment and engineering, law enforcement, and public policy should facilitate bicycling and walking.

7. Investments in sustainable transportation alternatives to ensure that any vehicle owned or leased by the City is as fuel-efficient and non-polluting as practicable.

8. City policies that promote and expand affordable and accessible public transportation options to ensure economic development along transportation corridors and make jobs and commercial activities more accessible without relying on motor vehicles.

9. Local control over independent contractors offering transportation for hire.
