2022 Elections Committee Recommendations

The Elections Committee met on January 22nd and interviewed the five candidates seeking Progressive Dane’s endorsement. The Committee unanimously makes the following recommendations to the General Membership for final approval at Wednesday, January 26th’s GMM meeting:

Recommendation to endorse with a $150 donation to their campaigns:

January 26th’s GMM meeting will be on ZOOM at 6:30 p.m. While the meeting is open to the public, only dues-paying members are eligible to vote. And endorsements require a two-thirds majority to pass.

The Elections Committee will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. and holding Candidate Interviews starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022. ProDane Endorsement Process 2022

INVITATION

Progressive Dane invites all candidates on the ballot to seek our endorsement. We are holding interviews this year on Saturday, January 22nd over Zoom.

SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW

Candidates should let us know as soon as possible by emailing office@prodane.org if they would like to schedule an endorsement interview. The interviews will start at 10 a.m. and be a half hour each. Please send us a few times that will work for you to help with scheduling. 

WRITTEN ANSWERS DUE January 19th by 11:59 p.m.

If a candidate would like to have an interview, we need your responses to the attached questionnaire (if required, see below) emailed to office@prodane.org by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19.

All submitted answers to the questions will be posted on our website, prodane.org, for our members and the general public to see.

ENDORSEMENT PROCESS

The endorsement process is as follows:

Questionnaires and Interviews

1) Both questionnaire and interview required for:

a) New candidates not previously endorsed by Progressive Dane for the office they are running for

b) Previously endorsed candidates who have a Progressive Dane member as opponent

2) Interview required, questionnaire optional (will be asked questions verbally in interview) for

a)  PD incumbents with no opponents seeking Progressive Dane’s endorsement

b)  Uncontested PD incumbents

Voting procedure - per the bylaws

- 2/3 vote of committee members present, abstentions count as no, including dual endorsements. Members who are up for endorsement will be asked to leave the room when their endorsement is considered and their vote will be presumed to be in favor, which will be counted in the tally.

- Funding recommendations will be considered at the same time

Report to General Membership

- Endorsements are presented to the membership as a slate. Members can separate as desired.  Vote tallies will be included in the report to the members.  Endorsements that failed will also be reported to the membership with the vote tally.

Timeline 2022

Jan. 4 - Filing Deadline

Jan. 5 - Email the questionnaire and invite to the interview all candidates filed with the city or county clerk and have submitted all paperwork to be on the ballot.

Jan. 19 - 11:59 p.m., deadline for candidate questionnaires

Jan. 20  - Questionnaires distributed via PD Elections Listserve and posted on our website

Jan. 22  - endorsement interviews, decisions on endorsements and funding allocations, email on process sent to candidates

Jan. 23 - Deadline for endorsement recommendations sent via email and posted to Progressive Dane Website

Jan. 26 - General membership final endorsement decisions at the January GMM at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom:  https://zoom.us/j/94865937173

Jan. 27 - Emails to all applicants with final decisions and what it means to be endorsed
